I very much appreciate your interest in the Art à la Carte program. It is a true privilege for me to work alongside so many inspiring volunteers. I am constantly in awe of the level of their dedication and commitment.

To become an Art à la Carte hospital volunteer, you are required to provide and/or complete the following:

1. An informal interview with a Foothills Medical Centre Volunteer Resources coordinator. 2. A security check carried out by Volunteer Resources. Two government issued pieces of identification are required, one of which must be a photo ID. Acceptable documents include: driver’s license, current passport or permanent resident card, Social Security card, or Alberta Health Care card. 3. A current immunization record. 4. An orientation session held at the Foothills Medical Center. Confidentiality issues will be discussed and you will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. 5. Two letters of reference.

Upon successful processing of your information, you will be invited to participate in a “shadow” run with an experienced volunteer. This will give you a sense of the bedside interactions and protocols. Subsequently, we will discuss your commitment and availability so that you may be added to our monthly schedule. Every Wednesday we visit the patients on Foothills Hospital medical units 47 and 57. There are two shifts available: 11:00am and 12:30pm and a minimum of two volunteers are required for each run.
