New Ceiling Installed at Last
"All things come to those who wait."
There’s an old saying, “All things come to those who wait.” After three years of logistical gymnastics, Art à la Carte recently celebrated the installation of another 6’ x 8’ SkyCeiling™ at a small reception at the Foothills Hospital. Contractors, volunteers, administrators and donors were in unanimous agreement that the ceiling made a huge improvement to the dark and dreary Diagnostic Imaging waiting area where patients who are in great distress await CT scans, MRI’s and an assortment of other difficult procedures.
Illusion or reality?
Contractor, Peter Czarnecki, along with Capital Management Project Manager, Henry Scholz, regaled our guests with the legacy of this project that few thought would ever reach completion. Think reams of paperwork, broken parts, customized retrofitting and things that go bump in the night appearing in the crawl space!
Mike Carson, Director of Diagnostic Imaging, expressed his gratitude saying that it is not only the patients who enjoy the brightened surroundings, but the staff as well. And where would we be without our champion, Mike French, who never once wavered in believing that the donations he enabled would be put to good use, regardless of how many years it took. We are endlessly grateful to Mike and his colleagues at the RBC Foundation and Rotary Club of Calgary West for providing funding for this and previous SkyCeiling™ projects.
Mike Carson says it all
But the greatest gift of all came in the form of a testimonial that arrived from patient, Ed Randall, several days after the dedication.
“Wow, what a wonderful way to brighten up a room. .. My name is Ed Randall and I am presently dealing with Renal Cell Carcinoma. I am a building contractor in Airdrie, and the ceiling at the Tom Baker made me feel free and that it was spring in my life and there were endless possibilities waiting to happen. I would like to help you share that feeling with others ...”
This was just the beginning of a lengthier conversation with Ed that began with a deeply insightful and articulate account of his cancer journey. He has kindly agreed to share these very personal words with you, our readers.
All things 'SkyCeiling' do come to those who wait. Diagnostic Imaging finally has its showcase. But this is only the surface of the value created by a full spectrum of human light.
